, the concept of awaiting him, and the associated religious duties. The title is derived from narrations about the rising of the sun from the west as a major sign before the Day of Judgment, a topic discussed in Shia sources. Conduct (Sīrah)

Numerous narrations and reports found in the hadith literature describe the method, behavior, and conduct of Imam Mahdi (AJ). These narrations illuminate the various dimensions of his way of life: his religious conduct, moral conduct, practical conduct, revolutionary conduct, and other aspects of his character. Since the conduct of Imam Mahdi (AJ) serves as an exemplary model and an ideal pattern for humanity, it is appropriate to briefly address each of these dimensions.

Religious Conduct

Imam Mahdi (AJ) is profoundly humble before God and the Majesty of God—exceedingly humble—like an eagle that, when confronted by danger, folds its wings, lowers its head, and descends from the heights of the sky. In the presence of divine grandeur, Imam Mahdi (AJ) manifests complete submission and humility.

The presence of God and the greatness of God are fully reflected in his being, encompassing his entire existence. Imam Mahdi (AJ) is just, blessed, and pure, and he does not neglect even the smallest particle of truth. Through him, God will grant honor and dignity to the religion of Islam.

Imam Mahdi (AJ) constantly carries the fear of God in his heart and is never deceived by the exalted rank of nearness that he holds with God. He does not attach his heart to worldly life, nor does he accumulate material wealth. In his governance, he does not wrong anyone, except where the enforcement of divine law requires the application of God’s prescribed limits.

Moral Conduct

Imam Mahdi (AJ) possesses dignity, tranquility, and solemn composure. He wears coarse garments and consumes barley bread. His knowledge and forbearance exceed those of all people. Imam Mahdi (AJ) shares the same name as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and his character reflects the noble character of the Prophet (PBUH).

Imam Mahdi (AJ) journeys through the world carrying the radiant torch of guidance and lives in the manner of the righteous.

Practical Conduct

At the time of the rise of Imam Mahdi (AJ), love and unity will prevail to such an extent that anyone may take from another’s possession whatever is needed, without fear or obstruction.

During the era of Imam Mahdi (AJ), believers will not seek profit from one another in their dealings. Hatred will be removed from hearts, and peace and security will spread throughout the world.

Imam Mahdi (AJ) is exceedingly generous and distributes wealth and resources freely among the people. He is firm and strict with his officials, administrators, and agents of government, yet remarkably compassionate and merciful toward the weak, the poor, and the oppressed.

“Among the signs of Imam Mahdi (AJ) is that he is strict with officials, generous with wealth, and merciful toward the poor.”

In his personal conduct, Imam Mahdi (AJ) is so gentle and caring that he places dates and honey into the mouths of the needy with his own hands. He lives in the manner of Amir al-Mu’minin Imam Ali (AS): consuming simple food, such as dry bread, and leading a life of piety and ascetic devotion.

Revolutionary Conduct

Imam Mahdi (AJ) will reclaim every rightful claim and restore it to its rightful owner—even if the right of someone has been seized by another, he will extract it from beneath the very teeth of the transgressing usurper and return it to its owner.
